How to Create a “Grouped” Product (e.g., a Bedroom Set)

A Grouped Product allows you to display a collection of related items on a single page. Instead of forcing a customer to navigate to three different pages to buy a bed, a nightstand, and a dresser, they can view the entire “Bedroom Collection” at once and choose the quantities of each piece they want to buy.

Creating a Grouped Product is a two-part process: first, you make the individual pieces, and then you group them together.

Phase 1: Prepare Your Individual Pieces

Before you can create a group, the individual items must already exist in your store.

  1. Navigate to Products in your main left-hand menu.

  2. Ensure that each individual piece (e.g., the Bed, the Nightstand, the Dresser) has been created as a standard Simple Product.

  3. Make sure each individual piece has its own Regular price set.

Pro-Tip for Clean Catalogs: If you only want customers to buy the nightstand from the main Collection page, you can hide the individual nightstand from your main shop page! Edit the nightstand, look at the Publish box on the right, click Edit next to Catalog visibility, and change it to Hidden.

Phase 2: Create the Main Collection Page

Now it is time to build the master page that will hold all of these pieces together.

  1. Navigate to Products and click Add New.

  2. Give your new master product a title (for example, “The Aspen Bedroom Collection”).

  3. Scroll down the page to the Product Data box.

  4. Click the drop-down menu at the top of this box (it usually defaults to Simple Product) and change it to Grouped Product.

    1. (Don’t panic! You will notice the price boxes disappear. This is completely normal because the price will automatically be calculated based on the individual pieces the customer chooses).

Phase 3: Link the Pieces Together

  1. While still inside the Product Data box, look at the tabs on the left side and click Linked Products.

  2. Find the search box labeled Grouped products.

  3. Type the name of your first individual piece (e.g., “Aspen Nightstand”). When it pops up in the search results, click it to add it.

  4. Repeat this search process to add the Dresser, the Bed, and any other matching pieces. You can click and drag the items in this box to change the order they will appear on the page!

  5. Scroll up to the top right of your screen and click the blue Publish (or Update) button to make your new Collection live.

Alternative Option: Sell the Set as a Single Package

If you do not want to give customers the option to buy the pieces individually, you can skip the grouped product process entirely and simply sell the configuration as one single item.

This is perfect if you only sell a specific 5-piece set for one total price, and it shares a single SKU.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Navigate to Products and click Add New.

  2. Give the product a clear title (e.g., “5-Piece Aspen Bedroom Set”).

  3. In the main description box, clearly list out exactly what is included in the package so the customer knows what they are getting.

  4. Scroll down to the Product Data box. Leave the drop-down set to Simple Product.

  5. Enter the total combined price for the entire set in the Regular price box.

  6. Scroll up and click Publish.

Note on Inventory: Selling the set as a single “Simple Product” means your store will track inventory for the set as one whole unit. If you use the “Grouped Product” method above, the system will track inventory for the bed, nightstand, and dresser individually. Choose the method that best matches how you buy from your manufacturer!
